Purcell, OK — March 10, 2026
Excitement is building—literally—across Purcell Public Schools! Thanks to the unwavering support of our community through the 2024 "Dragon Strong" bond issue, several major construction projects are transforming our campuses.
Here is the latest look at the progress of our key building projects:
Junior High: New FEMA Gym
The skyline at Purcell Junior High is looking much different these days. Construction on the new FEMA-rated gymnasium is moving along beautifully.
Current Status: Structural work is in full swing. The walls and frame are now clearly visible, showcasing the impressive scale of what will become a premier athletic and physical education space. The brickwork is nearly complete.
Safety First: Most importantly, this facility doubles as a high-capacity storm shelter for students, staff, and the community during severe weather events.
Timeline: We are still on track for a substantial completion date near the end of the summer.

Elementary School: Gym Renovation & Storm Shelter
The transformation at our Elementary campus is a dual-purpose success story. This project combines a complete overhaul of the existing gym with the addition of a state-of-the-art safe room.
Classroom Integration: The new safe area is designed as four brand-new classrooms, providing much-needed instructional space while ensuring our youngest learners have immediate access to a safe room.
Progress: Interior work and preparation are progressing steadily, with the renovation of the existing gym space moving into the final stages.

High School: New VO-AG Building
The future of our Agriculture program is taking shape! The new VO-AG Building (Ag Barn) is now well under construction.
Hands-on Learning: This facility will feature dedicated animal pens and a wash bay, providing students with the space they need for their livestock projects and agricultural education.
Focus: Crews are currently focused on site work and structural foundations to support this state-of-the-art addition.

Intermediate School: Saferoom Update
While work is progressing elsewhere, the Intermediate Saferoom project—which will also add four new classrooms—is currently at a temporary standstill.
Utility Coordination: The relocation of a main gas line by Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) was completed last week.
Next Steps: Construction will resume this week with the piers going in and wall construction to follow soon behind.

Traffic & Logistics: JH Parking Lot & Band Practice Pad
Improving campus flow and safety remains a priority. The new parking lot north of the Junior High is quickly taking shape.
Enhancements: This area will include a dedicated bus loop to streamline pick-up and drop-off, along with a much-needed practice pad for our award-winning band.
Current Work: Paving and site leveling are ongoing. Curbs and asphalt will follow the stabilization that will occur this week.

"Seeing these renderings become reality is a testament to the 'Dragon Strong' spirit of Purcell. We are incredibly grateful for the community's investment in our students' safety and education."— Dr. Sheli McAdoo, Superintendent
We will continue to provide monthly updates and photos as these projects move closer to the finish line. Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of building a better future for Purcell Public Schools!
