Back to School

August 3, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The start of school is right around the corner and we could not be more excited to welcome our students back!  It is going to be a great year and I am looking forward to working with you and our staff to provide your child with a great experience at Purcell PS.  The district is focused on helping students reach their full potential by providing opportunities for learning, social emotional support, academic engagement and recovery of learning in those areas that may have been impacted by time away from school.

There is still much to consider in dealing with COVID-19, and like you, the district is adjusting to new information all the time.  We plan to begin school as normal and make adjustments to our mitigation plan as necessary.  In compliance with Senate Bill 658, masks will not be required unless an emergency order is declared by the Governor for our area.  In this event, we will work through the tiered alert levels found in the PPS Return to Learn Plan and stay in close consultation with our local Health Department to determine if and when masks should be worn at each site.   The District will make masks available to anyone that would like to wear one.

Staff and eligible students are encouraged to get vaccinated for COVID-19,  but it is not required.  The district will continue to contact trace and work with the Health Department on isolations (positive cases).  We will encourage social distancing when space allows and utilize the cleaning and sanitizing protocols implemented last school year that were effective.  I encourage you to monitor your child’s health and to keep them home if they are ill (fever, cough, shortness of breath) and seek free COVID testing.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s school if we can be of service.  Together we can make this the best school year yet!

Proud to be a Dragon!
