Our Life Skills class took their learning on the road this week with an incredibly insightful visit to Ted Cox, CPA! 📊

The students dove deep into real-world financial literacy, starting with a great question about the best ways to file taxes. It was an eye-opening session as the class learned about the value of local expertise and the importance of understanding your paycheck.

The group walked away with some essential "tax hacks" for young workers:

Filing Smarter: Learning the difference between using a local CPA versus a big-name retail tax chain.

Withholding 101: Understanding how to properly fill out a W-4 to ensure they aren't having too much (or too little) tax taken out of their checks.

Self-Employment Tips: A great breakdown of the responsibilities that come with 1099 jobs, including setting aside money for Social Security and Medicare.

A huge thank you to Ted Cox for hosting our Dragons and empowering them with the skills to manage their future finances with confidence! 🐉💰

What a fantastic way to bring literature to life! 📖✨

This week in Mrs. Resendiz’s class, students participated in a special "Show and Tell" to kick off their study of the novel The House on Mango Street. Students were asked to bring in an item from home that represents who they are or where they come from—mirroring the themes of identity and heritage found in the book.

Both Mrs. Resendiz and her students loved the experience! It was a powerful, interactive way to connect their personal stories to the characters they are about to meet. Great job, Mrs. Resendiz, on creating such a meaningful and fun lesson to launch this next novel!

Signing Day

What an incredible day for the Brew Crew! ☕️✨

Our students were at the top of their game Tuesday, providing world-class service and sharing the story of Dragon Brew with some very distinguished guests. The crew had the opportunity to serve coffee, frappes, and cake pops to Lori Chesnut (OSDE), Lisa Toth (The Hidden Workforce), RISE Staffing, and board members of Oklahoma APSE.

A major highlight of the day was when the students introduced themselves to Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and sold him some of our famous Dragon Brew coffee! 🐉☕️

Beyond the sales, these students acted as true ambassadors for Purcell High School, sharing their personal experiences and the history of how our student-led coffee shop came to be. I am beyond proud of their professionalism, their hard work, and the way they represent the very best of our "Brew Crew."
