Our high school FFA students recently competed in the OK State Fair Judging Contest. Over 2000 students overall participated! 35 Purcell students participated, many in their first judging contest. The Sr FFA team (Chase Anderson, Carli Thomas, Kaden Pliler, and Jaxson Staggs) placed 10th out of 188 teams. Chase Anderson placed 4th individually out of 586! This is such a great experience for our students. They develop critical leadership, communication, and networking skills. Thank you for your leadership Purcell FFA sponsor Erica Keen. #phsdragons

Our Freshman leadership students took advantage of the beautiful weather and worked on team building exercises today including the Human Knot (see pics). We have incorporated leadership training courses into our high school curriculum the past 4 years. This is the first year all freshman complete one semester of leadership training. Freshman leadership is taught by Bryan Young. This program emphasizes the important skills students need to thrive in the modern world. The type of skills you may not always learn from traditional classroom instruction: Teamwork, Communication, Problem-Solving, Time-Management, and Basic Life Skills. I'm looking forward to our upcoming basic car maintenance unit where freshman will receive training in basic vehicle maintenance! #phsdragons

PHS Aviation instructor Jack McNeely took his Aviation 2 students to the Southern Oklahoma Aero Day in Ada on Monday. This event opened eyes to the attending students of the exciting career pathways available to students in Oklahoma's fast growing aeronautics industry. Thank you Jack for providing our students this opportunity. If you look hard you can find them in the picture! #phsdragons

The Dragon Pride Marching Band placed 8th in Prelims and 11th in the Finals at the Moore Outdoor Music Festival yesterday. I was very proud of our members and directors David Hilger and Jacob Willing. The conditions were extremely tough with the heat index well above 100 degrees. It was HOT! Great job band and thank you to our parents and supporters. #phsdragons

PHS Teacher & FCCLA Sponsor Stefanie Renfro teaches an Interior Design Course as part or our Career Tech Family & Consumer Science program. Her students are designing and building model homes and learning about different home designs, architectural styles, etc. It's a great hands-on, project based, collaborative learning experience that helps students build the type of skills needed in the modern workplace. #phsdragons

The Dragon Pride Marching Band performs at the Moore Outdoor Music Festival today @ 2:45 PM to start marching season. I cannot say enough about all the hard work that contributes to a successful band program. It's a major operation. Our Band Boosters deserve recognition for their support of this program. A great example is the props (still unpainted in these pics) the band will use in their performance. The Band Booster club provided the materials and Band parent Eric Brown made them. This is the type of community and parent support that are critical to a school. Thank you! 2024-25 Band Boosters: President: Joanna Hartleroad Vice President: Josh Howsley Treasurer: Mitzi Lindsay Secretary: Melissa Feroli
