Purcell High School

I was very impressed with the work of our 9th grade physical science classes taught by veteran PHS teacher Jack McNeely. They were working on their acid and bases lab with a goal of determining whether a liquid was an acid or base. Many of us probably remember working on a science lab when attending school. This type of learning still combines all the elements of good instruction: discovery, inquiry, collaboration, and higher order thinking. Mr. McNeely teaches physical science, AP Physics, Anatomy & Zoology, and Aviation 2 at PHS. We appreciate his long service to the school and community and his dedication to his classes. This morning, we had a spirit hall walk for our Boys Cross Country Team. The boys qualified for state last week at regionals in Henryetta. The Boys Team will run in the state meet tomorrow at 2:10 at Edmond Santa Fe. We enjoyed celebrating the teams success, and wish that the rain holds off tomorrow for a great state meet tomorrow. Go Dragons!

Students with good attendance tend to do better academically, build stronger social skills, and experience professional success after high school (colleges and employers place great value on good attendance). We would like to congratulate and recognize Boston Knowles on becoming only the 2nd Purcell Football Player to surpass 4,000 career rushing yards. Boston accomplished this significant milestone during last week's win over Star Spencer! #GoDragons

Last week our Spanish Club held it's monthly meeting. The officers served delicious food and discussed their upcoming community project which is providing needed items for our local Animal Shelter. They also learned more about the culture of the upcoming Day of the Dead. Thank you Spanish Club and sponsors Mayra Munoz and Irma Calixto for helping celebrate the diversity of our school and providing students important service learning opportunities. Dragon Esports Mario Kart (Brendan, Bradley, Aj, and Fatima) pick up another big win over top ranked Billings. Purcell Mario Kart is 4-1 and ranked 10th in the state! The 20th ranked Rocket League team takes on the #21 Wolverines from Nebraska (not traveling to Nebraska).

Dragon Brew is selling hot beverages, chicken biscuits and breakfast burritos. It's rewarding watch these students take ownership of this operation and learn important business skills such as budgeting, inventory, advertising, and customer service. Great stuff. #phsdragons
