This group of third graders have been engaging in many cooperative learning games that help build community, communication, and compassion for one another! One day, Miss Windham's class read the story "My Mouth is a Volcano" and discussed how they could prevent themselves from "erupting" in class. Then, they learned about different volcanos and worked together to form their own! šAnother activity her students participated in was the paper chain challenge. Each small group was given paper and a 10-minute timer to see who can create the largest chain. They had to do a lot of problem solving together and figure out how their pieces needed to be to make it the length they wanted. āļøHer students also participated in the balloon challenge. They were given various tasks and had to work as a team to keep the balloon up before the 1-minute timer went off. At the end, every group won at least once! šFinally, Miss Windham's class worked in groups to "save Fred." Fred is our friend the worm who was stranded and couldn't get to his life preserver on his own. Her class used only a single paper clip to carefully help Fred find his life preserver and wiggle into it. After some trial and error, most of the groups were able to save Fred! šš

šš While we had the 2-Square courts out, we decided to play some PING PONG! šš Students worked on striking an object with a short implement šā”ļøš all while laughing, learning, and having a blast! š„š„ #DragonPE #GameOn

šš Today in PE we had a BLAST playing 2ļøā£ Square! š
We learned what it means to volley and practiced striking the ball with CONTROL šŖšÆ. Students teamed up with lots of different classmates šÆāāļøš¤, building connections all around the gym! šāāļøš
We also added some new POWER words to our vocabulary:
⨠Perseverance š„

Exciting things are happening in Mrs. Jones' 5th-grade science class! Our garden is thriving, and the radish seeds we planted are already sprouting! The students have been busy weeding and prepping the soil while learning so much about gardening. Weāve also made some fun friendsāa baby bunny, helpful garden spiders, and a stunning luna moth! š°š·ļøš¦ Plus, weāre watching fruit decompose for composting and exploring the movement of matter. Itās a hands-on adventure in learning! šæ #GardenScience #HandsOnLearning

Please plan to join us for our upcoming meetings.

In third grade, Ms. Greenlee's class has been learning how to work in cooperative groups by testing their communication skills. Her students were tasked with solving various puzzles while not talking and with talking to only their partners. They also practiced their listening skills by completing puzzles with only following one of their partners' directions. Talk about team building!

This week, our third graders had the pleasure of going to see Mrs. Mc's rainforest! They learned about nature and found hidden creatures, such as Stellaluna the bat, cicadas, and even a snake skin! In the pictures, you'll see Ms. Windham's class learning about cicadas and even getting to hold their shells. They loved it!

PE-SUPER CHICKEN WINNERS Day 2

In PE, we had a blast playing a game called Super Chickenāand the students LOVED it! š£ā”ļøšā”ļøš¦øā”ļøāØ
Itās the perfect warm-up that gets kids moving, interacting, and leveling up through Rock, Paper, Scissors. Players start as an egg, transform into a chicken, then a superhero, and finally reach immortal status! The first ones to make it all the way got to hop on the bench and show off their best superhero pose! šŖ
We also played some awesome back-to-school games from OPEN like Cone Catcher and Hoop It Up to build teamwork and practice having a growth mindset. These kids are rocking it already this year, and we couldnāt be prouder! šš„

In PE, we have mastered our Gaga Ball Expectations and are now ready to enjoy it at recess! š Along with learning this exciting game, weāve been building teamwork skills through fun and challenging activities.
Students participated in the Ice Cream Cone Relay Race, where we focused on āfast failuresāāmaking mistakes, learning from them, and quickly adjusting strategies. We also played Breaking Chains, tossing beanbags into hula hoops while using encouraging words, communicating, and strategizing together as a team.
Not only are we working on teamwork, communication, and cooperation, but we are also making sure to play all of our games safely and responsibly. Proud of the progress our Dragons are making every day! ššŖ

Can you believe that we have already started school? Two days have passed and third grade has already engaged in so many exciting activities!
Our third grade students have been given a proper tour of the building and the playground, as well as visiting with Mrs. Swayze about procedures and what to look forward to at the intermediate. Each class has also participated in many activities that build a class family and team etiquette! In Ms. Greenlee's class, her students read "First Day Jitters" while drinking jitter juice and discussing the various ways they felt about starting this new school year. Mrs. Davis' class was given a series of challenges involving balloons not touching the ground and collaborating as a team in order to complete them. So much fun!!!
