👻🎯 Today in PE, we put our throwing and tossing skills to the test with a spooky game of Ghost Knockdown! Teams worked together to take down the other team’s ghosts using foam balls while taking on one of three important roles — throwers, guards, and collectors! We even turned down the lights to make it extra spooky! 💡🕸️ It was the perfect mix of teamwork, strategy, and Halloween fun! 🎃💪

🎃 Today we said BOO to Drugs! 👻 Students and staff showed off their creativity by wearing costumes to school—it was a spooktacular day! Our 3rd grade teachers brought idioms to life, 4th grade teachers stepped straight out of Shrek’s swamp, and our 5th grade team had everyone cracking up with their 6-7 tops! Even our cafeteria crew joined in the fun, dressing as chips and salsa and serving up delicious taco soup for lunch! 🌮🫕 There were so many fun and imaginative costumes across the school—it was the perfect way to wrap up Wellness Week with laughter, spirit, and a reminder to make healthy choices! 💪🎃

Dear Purcell school families:

We know many families in our community count on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (SNAP) to provide meals for their families. Unfortunately, due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits will likely be temporarily interrupted, beginning Nov. 1. We understand this disruption may cause uncertainty, worry, and financial burden for some members of our school family.

Please know those impacted are not alone; we’re here to help. We hope the following information will be beneficial to those facing difficulty during this challenging time:

  • Students will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at school, based on their current eligibility status. If a family’s financial circumstances have changed for any reason, including government furloughs, parents can apply or update their free or reduced-price meal application by visiting our website at www.purcellps.org

  • Parents can dial 211 on their phones to receive additional information about food banks, pantries, and other community support programs across Oklahoma.  Please contact Malia Turner turnerm@purcellps.org, School-Based Family Specialist, at 405-442-0099 for support in locating resources.

  • Our school team stands ready to support anyone with questions or specific needs. Please contact your child’s school office if we can assist your family.

  • Oklahomans can learn more about how the government shutdown will affect SNAP benefits by visiting the Department of Human Services' FAQ webpage. Those who need assistance and those who would like to support their fellow Oklahomans can find additional resources on the DHS “Be a Neighbor” webpage.

Although this situation is beyond our control, we can decide how to care for one another. Our school team is committed to keeping you informed and ensuring every student feels safe, secure, and supported.

Thank you for your partnership with Purcell PS.

🎃👻 It’s Halloween Week in PE and things are getting SPOOKY (and a little bit sweet)! 🍬 Today we kicked things off with Candy Crushers and Haunted House! In Candy Crushers, students raced to knock down cones while the candy makers hustled to stand them back up — talk about a sugar rush of energy! 💥 Then we crept into our Haunted House game where teams gathered candy and pumpkins while trying to dodge the tricky taggers! 🕸️ Lots of laughs, teamwork, and Halloween spirit filled the gym today! 👻🍭🧡

The main idea is... teamwork! 💡 Ms. Cochran’s class showed off their knowledge of main idea by physically representing its framework. Their collaborative creations perfectly capture the central theme and all the important details! Nailed it! ✨

Nothing brings in the October vibes like bat caves! 🦇 After reading "Bats Did It First!", Miss Windham's class learned about echolocation, bat behaviors, and their habitats. To wrap up the week, students paired up, scavenged for supplies, and created their own amazing bat caves! Very collaborative and creative work! 🍂🪾

Students in Mrs. Ambrose’s third grade class have been practicing their multiplication strategies by playing an Everyday Math game! ✨✖️ Through the game, they worked on representing equal groups and arrays to build a stronger understanding of how multiplication works. It was a fun and hands-on way to reinforce their math skills! 🎲

Halloween safety is key for a fun and secure night! 🎃 Parents should ensure costumes are safe, using reflective materials to prevent tripping. Kids should be accompanied by an adult and stick to well-lit areas. Don’t forget to check candies for tampering! Have a safe and enjoyable Halloween! 🍬✨ #HalloweenSafety Check out Healthy Schools Oklahoma’s video on Halloween Safety! https://youtu.be/uOrbcT2UDlw

🏹 Today in PE, we made String Bows to get a feel for proper archery form before shooting real arrows! 🎯 Students practiced how to stand, draw, and follow through—focusing on technique and muscle memory (no targets needed yet!). The String Bow helps us learn the feel before the real deal! 💪🔥

🔥🚒 Fire Safety Day! 🚒🔥 Fire Marshall Quinn Kroth and his amazing crew spent the day teaching our students all about fire safety! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒 Students learned so many important lessons, including: 🏠 How to create an escape plan and family meeting place 🔥 The Fire Triangle – fuel, heat, and oxygen 💨 How radiation, convection, and conduction spread heat 🕯️ Did you know a candle flame is shaped like a ball in outer space? So cool! 🥘 What to do in a grease fire – turn off the stove, cover the pan, and use baking soda or salt (never water!) 📺 If there’s a microwave fire, turn it off and keep the door shut 🚪 Always have two ways to escape from every room ⚡ And we even talked about spontaneous combustion and checking smoke detectors regularly! A huge thank you to Fire Marshall Kroth and the Purcell Fire Department for keeping our students Fire Smart and safe every day! ❤️🔥
