We are so thankful for our 2 administrative assistants. Ms. Hilary and Ms. Shannon are dedicated to serving our students, staff, and parents each and every day. Even during times where the office is full of people needing something, they serve everyone quickly, efficiently, and always with a smile on their faces. Thank you Ms. Hilary and Ms. Shannon for all you do for PJH! You're the best!

So tonight this happened- At the State TSA Conference, our very own Paul Wollenberg was inducted into the Oklahoma TSA Hall of Fame! Congratulations Mr. Wollenberg on this prestigous and well-deserved achievement!

Congratulations to our 5 students who participated in the State TSA Vex Robotics Meet today in Norman. The competition was very good but Ethan Heck and Jeremiah Berger took their robot all the way to the finals and placed 13th out of 49. The two boys also had the 3rd highest coding score overall. Great job students and sponsor Mr. Wollenberg!

Our PJH Band had a very successful day last week at the Blanchard Middle School Band Festival. The 7th/8th graders performed in 42 different solos and ensembles, with 34 of them receiving a "Superior" score(the highest rating possible). The remaining 8 of them received an" Excellent" rating. The beginning band performed as a full band and were unanimously superior! They received "Superior" ratings from all 4 judges! Great job band students, Mr. Willing, and Mr. Hilger, we are very proud of you!

PARENT PICK-UP REMINDERS: Parents who pick up students after school should always use the designated pick-up line in the back of the JH. We understand the inconvenience of waiting in line and do our best to safely expedite the process. Please do not pick up your student in other areas around the school. Also, parents should avoid parking in front of the Senior Living Center( east of the Ag Barn) and having your student(s) meet you there. This is a safety concern for our students and creates problems for our good neighbors at the Senior Center. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

It's Paraprofessional Appreciation Day and we are very grateful for our wonderful team! Thank you for all you do for our students and staff. We appreciate each and everyone of you so much: Wilma Mize, Jackie Robinson, Kayla Skinner, Grant Gish, Karla Rodgers, Kesha Montgomery, and Diana Garduno. Not pictured: Irma Calixto and Amanda Ewing.

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will come across the United States, allowing our students to witness a rare solar event. With such a monumental event occurring during the school day, Purcell Public Schools will be conducting a viewing of the event for students, faculty, and staff members who wish to participate in grades 2nd through 12th grade. Safety is our top priority, and we would like you and your child to be aware of the precautionary steps we are putting in place for the event.
Homemade or ordinary sunglasses are not sufficient ways to view an eclipse, as the reflectivity and polarization are not high enough for viewing the eclipse in a safe manner. To ensure that each participant is safe, Purcell Public Schools will be supplying those who wish to participate with a pair of glasses specifically designed for eclipse viewing. These glasses conform to the transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2, which are filters specifically designed for direct observation of the sun. We will be viewing a partial solar eclipse (at its greatest point will look like a fingernail/crescent shape.) It will be at maximum coverage at 1:44 p.m. That means glasses must be worn at all times during the viewing. Students should never look at the sun without special eye protection, and removing glasses, even temporarily, may have serious effects on your eyes. Outdoor activities will be restricted from 12:00 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. on the day of the eclipse. Precautions will be taken to cover windows where necessary to prevent accidental viewing of the eclipse.
Because of these safety concerns, a parent or guardian signature is required for students to participate in the event using the provided eclipse glasses. Students who do not complete this form and return to the school by April 4, 2024, will not be able to participate. For more information relating to overall safety viewing during an eclipse, https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/safety/
Sincerely,
Sheli McAdoo, Ph.D.
Superintendent
