Wishing you a fun fall, Dragon Families - Mrs. Stone

Next Thursday, November 4th, is our Fall Into Learning Night @ PES!
Learning is fun, and we would like to share a night of learning with you!
Please join us with your Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd-grade Purcell Elementary student and Fall into Learning with us at PES on November 4th from 5:30-6:30, come and go. There will be reading and math games, snacks, prizes, and more!
We are also planning to have Nothing Bundt Cakes, Kona Ice & Chick-fil-a on site! These businesses give back a portion of their proceeds to our school. Thank you all for your support! 🐲🍁📚
We will also have our District-Wide Food Drive to share from our hearts next week, November 3rd-7th. This is a time to help our neighbors! The food collected in our food drive goes directly back to families in our community through Thanksgiving food baskets and also assists with Operation Christmas food baskets. You can help by purchasing a few non-perishable items to send in with your student next week or bringing items to drop off at our Fall Into Learning event next week. All non-perishable items are accepted, but the list below includes food items that are in high demand. #DragonCARES brings smiles to the giver and the receiver when we are supporting families in our community. 🍁🥫🐲

Thank you, Boomerang and Sonic, for supporting our students! Each student received a Student of the Month certificate, a free kid's meal from Boomerang and a coupon for a free Sonic slush!

Congratulations to our amazing Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Katrina Wilkins, and Staff of the Month, Mrs. Brenna Collins! 🎉
Mrs. Wilkins has been teaching for 18 years, with the past 4 years at Purcell Elementary and the last 2 years in PE. She brings incredible energy and enthusiasm to our PE program, keeping our Dragons active, healthy, and always having fun! 🏃♀️💪 Her positivity is contagious, and she inspires students to give their best effort every day!
Mrs. Collins has been a dedicated paraprofessional, serving both in the resource room and most recently as part of our reading team. 📚💚 She teaches small reading groups and supports students and teachers wherever she’s needed. Her flexibility, kindness, and commitment make a lasting difference across our school!
We are so thankful for both of these outstanding ladies and all they do to make Purcell Elementary such a special place! 🐉💫

Dear Purcell school families:
We know many families in our community count on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (SNAP) to provide meals for their families. Unfortunately, due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits will likely be temporarily interrupted, beginning Nov. 1. We understand this disruption may cause uncertainty, worry, and financial burden for some members of our school family.
Please know those impacted are not alone; we’re here to help. We hope the following information will be beneficial to those facing difficulty during this challenging time:
Students will continue to receive breakfast and lunch at school, based on their current eligibility status. If a family’s financial circumstances have changed for any reason, including government furloughs, parents can apply or update their free or reduced-price meal application by visiting our website at www.purcellps.org
Parents can dial 211 on their phones to receive additional information about food banks, pantries, and other community support programs across Oklahoma. Please contact Malia Turner turnerm@purcellps.org, School-Based Family Specialist, at 405-442-0099 for support in locating resources.
Our school team stands ready to support anyone with questions or specific needs. Please contact your child’s school office if we can assist your family.
Oklahomans can learn more about how the government shutdown will affect SNAP benefits by visiting the Department of Human Services' FAQ webpage. Those who need assistance and those who would like to support their fellow Oklahomans can find additional resources on the DHS “Be a Neighbor” webpage.
Although this situation is beyond our control, we can decide how to care for one another. Our school team is committed to keeping you informed and ensuring every student feels safe, secure, and supported.
Thank you for your partnership with Purcell PS.
