Day two of our new cell phone ban is in the books, and I'm so impressed with how our students have adjusted (as they always do). It's been incredible to see them engaging more with one another—I've seen students talking more, reading books more, playing games, and even passing notes in class ! 📝

This change is a huge step in the right direction for our school community and will have huge positive impacts on student mental health. Thank you to our parents for your support as we take on this new challenge. We are off to an amazing start! 🚀

Let's hear it for the incredible Purcell High School Math Department! 📣 Our students are so lucky to have this team guiding them. Not only do they bring years of experience and expertise, but they're also pros at building great relationships with our teenagers. 👏

Huge thanks to this amazing crew:

Krysta Matthews: Algebra 2 📐
Matt Lohn: Algebra 1 ✏️
Michael O'Neal: Department Chair, Calculus & Trigonometry 📊
Lynn Bayless: Geometry 📏

(Not pictured but just as awesome: Bryan Young (Algebra 1A) and Kenzie Hay (Algebra & Geometry Essentials) !

Thank you for everything you do to make math engaging and fun for our students! ❤️

Yesterday was a big day for the Lady Dragons softball team! They secured their first win and their first district win with a 3-1 victory over the Harrah Lady Panthers. A huge congratulations to the players on this awesome achievement.

We also want to give a special shout-out to Coach Tutwiler and Coach Tompkins, who earned their first wins as coaches of the Lady Dragons. Congratulations!

The team doesn't get much of a break, as they're right back in action today at the Tuttle Festival. They'll face Mustang at 3 pm and Tahlequah at 6 pm. Good luck, girls!

Get ready, Dragons—school starts tomorrow! We've missed you and can't wait to see you all.

A quick heads-up: Phones, tablets, smartwatches & glasses, and wireless headphones & earbuds are strictly banned (STATE LAW). Please remember to leave these devices at home or be prepared to store them out of sight at ALL times!

Thank you to our parents and guardians for your support. We take our responsibility to educate your students and keep them safe very seriously, and we're looking forward to a great year ahead!

As we get ready for the new school year, we wanted to talk more about the new state law banning cell phones in schools. While we know this is a big change, we're focusing on the incredible benefits this will bring to our students.

This isn't just about following a new rule; it's about giving our kids the best possible learning environment. We’ve seen from other states that banning phones in schools leads to higher test scores, improved mental health, less bullying, and more in-person social interaction among students. We can ALL support this!

By supporting this policy at home, you're helping us create a distraction-free space where your children can thrive academically and personally. Together, we can make this a fantastic year for our students!

ATTENTION TO PHS STUDENTS & PARENTS: CHANGES TO ACT EXAM!

We'd like to provide an important update regarding changes to the ACT exam in effect for upcoming September national test date on September 6. THESE ARE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE EXAM. Please note the late registration deadline for this testing date is August 19th

Changes to the ACT Exam:
Starting with the September 2025 exam, the ACT will be shorter, and the science section will be optional . The main composite score will now be based only on the English, Math, and Reading sections.

I've copied the 25-26 national testing dates below. Please note all PHS juniors will take the exam in the spring of 2026 as part of our state college and career readiness assessments.

Summer is winding down, but the school has been a busy place the past week with many prepping for the start! ☀️ Our Purcell Dragons students are enjoying their last few days of summer break before the new school year begins.

We can't wait to see everyone this Thursday, August 14th for the first day of school! 🐉

A quick but important reminder:

📱 Cell phones are strictly prohibited in ALL parts of the school from 8:10 AM until 3:15 PM, per Senate Bill 139. It's the Law!

🚫 Phones cannot be seen or heard during this time. THIS INCLUDES HALLWAYS DURING PASSING PERIOD, LIBRARY, COMMONS, AND GYM.

✅ Students ARE allowed to use their phones during lunch from 11:45 AM - 12:30 PM.

Students are allowed to use their phone for documented medical purposes and emergencies (ex. weather or medical situation)

🎒 You can bring your phone to school, but it must be silenced and stored in a backpack, pocket, or locker during the school day. 1st offense is 1 DAY OF ISS and loss of semester test exemptions.

See you Thursday, Dragons! Go Dragons! 🤍
