Math Tutoring Corps open to all Oklahoma 8th graders
OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 15, 2021) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education is opening up a high-dosage tutoring program to all 8th grade students in public schools. The Oklahoma Math Tutoring Corps is an initiative funded with approximately $5 million in federal relief funding and will help close pandemic-related gaps in math learning and algebra readiness.
“The disruptions in learning and trauma associated with the pandemic exacted a serious academic toll,” said Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “In Oklahoma, as in many other states, educators are grappling with unfinished learning across all subjects, but the area most significantly impacted appears to be mathematics. The Math Tutoring Corps can reverse learning loss among the most severely impacted students.”
Students who enroll in the Oklahoma Math Tutoring Corps will receive virtual tutoring, three times a week from a qualified teacher or college student. All tutoring will be held outside of school hours. Tutoring services will begin on Jan. 11.
For more information about the program and to enroll, go to sde.ok.gov/math-tutoring-corps. Enrollment closes on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

2022-23 FAFSA Now Available
The 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is here!
This year students can access the FAFSA by visiting StudentAid.gov or by using the myStudentAid mobile app. The FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after Oct. 1 to ensure priority consideration for some types of financial aid. It is best to gather all necessary materials before starting the FAFSA. Since the 2022-23 FAFSA allows applicants to use 2020 tax information, families can use their 2020 return to complete the application right away! There's no need to wait.
To complete and submit the FAFSA online, students and one of their parents/guardians, will each need to create an FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) at StudentAid.gov. This username/password serves as an electronic signature on the FAFSA and certain student loan applications, and allows users to access other federal student aid websites. It is beneficial for families to create their FSA IDs before starting the FAFSA to speed up the application process. Visit UCanGo2.org to download an FSA ID Worksheet (in English and Spanish) to keep track of your information.
For more information and FAFSA resources, including educational tools and tutorial videos in English and Spanish, visit StartWithFAFSA.org.
