Our Aviation 1 students, under the guidance of Jack McNeely, built airfoils to test & designed and constructed wind tunnels. Aviation is a new STEM career pathway. Students learn the history of flight and basics of engineering design. I love the hands-on learning! #phsdragons

Southwest Oklahoma Band Directors Association (SWOBDA) Honor Band Auditions were this weekend at Altus High School. Purcell had a great representation of 48 students between the HS and JH Band Programs. Students learn 2 pieces of music for their specific instrument and then perform anonymously for 2 judges. If students make the SWOBDA Honor Band, they get to go to a clinic/performance in February with students from all of the other schools in our region. We are very proud of all the students that auditioned yesterday! The following students made the 2023 SWOBDA Honor Band. Juniors: Leilani Hartleroad (Trumpet) / Abbygail King (Clarinet). Freshmen: Asa Byrne (Percussion) / Kenna Lee (Bass Clarinet) / Abril Myury (Clarinet).

Thanks to the leadership of several of our teachers and staff, several students have started a business selling coffee and hot chocolate at school to staff and students. They applied for and were awarded a generous grant from the Purcell Public Schools Foundation. "Dragon Brew" celebrated opening day today and the lines were long! This is such a wonderful opportunity for many of our students to build real-life skills and become a larger part of the overall school community. It supports the inclusion of ALL students in our school through increased interactions with peers and staff. Great stuff!
